If you’re selling your house through the traditional real estate process, most agents you may be considering listing with will recommend emptying as much out of your house as possible prior to putting the house on the market. There will be a cost to that whether you decide to get dumpsters to throw items out or rent storage unit space to move items you want to keep into. That cost will likely begin in the $500-$1000 range depending on the size of your clean out project. if you’re renting storage unit space that cost may start smaller but will be ongoing. Keep in mind that the “hidden cost” will be your own time and effort in sorting, packing or throwing items away.
